Frequently Asked Questions

How do I go about hiring a band or disc jockey, once I've decided who I want?

Call and tell us your decision. We'll confirm the artist's availability and mail you 2 copies of an agreement to be signed. You keep one copy and send us the other, signed and accompanied by your deposit, within 10 days. We then forward the paperwork to the artist for signing. You will receive a final copy of the agreement with all three signatures, yours, ours, and the artist's. T

The whole procedure takes only 21 days. We discuss all charges with you before you sign any papers.

If your event is a wedding, bar mitzvah or bat mitzvah, we'll send you a procedure form along with the agreement to be signed. This procedure form allows you to specify the performance details you want. It also gives you the name and phone number of the artist contact.

You should return the completed procedure form to the artist at least 4 weeks prior to your event. (For examples, see our "Sample Forms" page.)

Is it possible to view the band or disc jockey in a live performance before I decide?

Yes. Conditions permitting, we do allow this courtesy under certain guidelines:

  • We ask that viewers be appropriately attired in dress clothes and behave discreetly at all times.
  • We ask that you arrive at least 2 hours after the function has begun. With dinner over, you'll hear a better mix of dance music as well as being less conspicuous.
  • We ask you to recognize that many places discourage viewing as a matter of policy. There is always the risk of being asked to leave. WSP cannot be held responsible for such inconveniences.
  • We strongly urge our clients to take advantage of the regularly scheduled showcases.

When do I contact the artist I've hired?

Once your engagement is booked, you will have the artist's phone number. Feel free to call your band or DJ any time you have questions about the actual performance at your event.

On the other hand, business inquiries including changes of time, date and location are best handled by contacting us at WSP.

Do I need to meet with my band or DJ?

Not usually. Ninety-five percent of the time, event planning can be handled entirely by telephone and/or email. In the event that you want to meet personally, most of our artists will be happy to meet with you.

Will the band learn special songs for my occasion?

ince all our bands are experienced at functions, they have extensive song lists representing virtually every period and style. Nevertheless, the band will be happy to learn one or two songs for you, as long as you provide the music (sheet music, tape, cd, etc.) and lyrics (a lyric sheet) 4 to 6 weeks ahead of time. However, the band reserves the final right to exercise its professional judgment.

Will the DJ provide material I request, if it's not in his library?

The DJ will be happy to play a tape or CD provided it is supplied in advance. The DJ cannot make specific purchases of requested material.

How can I arrange for them to play special dances during the wedding?

You'll receive a wedding procedure form in advance that lets you specify all the details for your first dance, special dances, last dance and more. Visit our "Sample Forms" page to see an example.

How do you handle payment?

Your 50% deposit, payable to Wilson Stevens Productions, Inc., is due with your signed agreement within 10 days of the issue date. This deposit reserves the artist for you. We accept personal check, Visa or MasterCard.

The balance is to be made payable to the artist and is due on the engagement date. The balance due can be paid by personal check, bank draft, money order, or cash. The artist cannot accept Visa or MasterCard.

How do you handle cancellations?

We require your written confirmation of cancellation, signed by the person whose name is on the agreement.

If the artist is able to fill the same date and time with a similar engagement (wedding, bar mitzvah, banquet, etc.), then a refund check for the deposit, minus $195. handling fees, will be issued to the purchaser.

If the artist is not able to obtain a replacement engagement and the cancellation notice is received 180 days or more in advance of the engagement date, the purchaser forfeits the full deposit.

If the artist is not able to obtain a replacement engagement and the cancellation notice is received less than 180 days in advance of the engagement date, the purchaser is liable for the full basic charge as stated in the contract.

What happens if the band changes its members before my engagement?

We always notify you of any change in front personnel - vocalists or key players who are unique to the band's look and sound. In this event, we will also give you a location to view the replacement artist or send you a demo if available. If you are not satisfied with the replacement artist, you may cancel the engagement and receive your deposit back, less $195. handling fees.

What happens if the band, disc jockey, or other group breaks up or is unable to perform for my reception?

It hardly ever happens. But if the ARTIST disbands or is unable to perform, we'll either find a replacement artist that is acceptable to you or refund the deposit in total, as stated in the agreement.
